CBD Drinks – Can Oil Really Dissolve in Water?
There are many CBD drinks on the market nowadays, but a common question that people want answering is how can you dissolve oil in water?
There are a few different methods that can be used to produce a CBD beverage. Firstly there are “nanoemulsions”. This is a patent-pending oil formulation that works like an emulsifier or a binding agent. Products such as conditioners and lotions will contain binding agents that are used to hold on to both oil and water molecules. Nanoemulsion, is a method of doing so on a very very tiny level.
Potential Stability Problems
Even with the use of a binding agent, oil and water naturally separate over time which can also decrease the bioavailability of the CBD. A nanoemulsion is not a new invention, as it has been used very regularly in beverage manufacturing in the past, but it has been found to be a much more stable formulation than microemulsion, which is important. For the product to have a long shelf, the CBD must remain stable in solution so it can be enjoyed for up to 12 months after manufacturing.
Emulsion Alternatives
An alternative method is to create a CBD powder. As done by multiple bars, to make a CBD cocktail. It is possible to extract the isolates using CO2 and cryo-ethanol technologies. The CBD powder can then be mixed into multiple different drinks or cocktails to make a delightful mellowing beverage.
Another method, as done by a Bioscience company in Canada uses cannabis biomass and an extraction formula, to extract a ready-made naturally water soluble CBD extract. The buffer is washed over the biomass of the plant repeatedly until the CBD is extracted into a large volume of liquid. This can then be downstream processed to increase the concentration of the CBD in the final liquid. This makes a naturally water soluble form of CBD isolate, completely bypassing the oil production stage.
With all of these options, comes a plethora of opportunity for the CBD drinks market. There are already numerous delicious beverages out there to be discovered.
